LIONS DEFEAT #3 SEEDED BETHEL, ADVANCE TO SECTIONAL FINAL

The Tigers of Bethel were no match for Austin Skaggs and the Lions on Thursday. Behind a strong defense, Skaggs dominated the Tigers, pitching a two-hit complete game shutout. The offense was led by Cole Bird, Tanner Wolfe, and Ryan Waters, who all provided 2 hits. Cole Bird's double plated 2 runs and proved to be the key hit of the game. Austin Skaggs improved his season record to 7-1. The 21-4 Lions now move on to the sectional final on Thursday, 5/17 to take on the CNE Rockets. The Lions team members and coaching staff are grateful for the big and spirited crowd that showed up yesterday to support them. Thank you!

Lions respond with 6-0 win over Bethel

Bethel called out our boys and they responded big time with a 6-0 win Thursday to advance to next Thursday's sectional finals at Lebanon High School against  Clermont Northeastern, a 11-10 winner over Indian Hill Thursday.

New Richmond Boys Tennis Team Advances Four Players Into Districts

Congratulations to the boys tennis squad for qualifying 2 doubles teams into the district tournament.  Doubles teams consisting of Henry Heidlage/Clint Lytle and Zach Manning/Matt Rydzewski advanced to the semifinals of the sectional meet on Thursday, which automatically qualifies them for the district meet next week.  Both teams will play this Saturday in the sectional semifinals to determine seedings for the district meet.  This is the first time in at least five years that anyone from the boys tennis team has qualified for districts, let alone two teams qualifying.  Other players that played well at sectionals included Evan McKinley (won 2 matches), Newton McCollum (won 1 match), and David Ohntrup (won 1 match).

Congratulations to the boys track and field team on their 3rd place finish at the SBAAC league meet last night. Scoring for the team was: 
Brian Paskins with 6th place in the 200meter Dash; Colt Reese and Darren Porter with 2nd and 5th place in the 400meter Dash; Alex Ariapad with 2nd in the 800meter Run and 1st place in the 1600meter Run; Grant Gilman 5th in the 1600meter Run; Bobby Bingham and Luke Gilday with 2nd and 4th in the 3200meter Run; Aaron Pollard and Pierce Burnam with 4th and 6th in the 110 Hurdles; Pierce Burnam and Miles Burnam with 4th and 6th in the 300 Hurdles; the 4x100 Relay (Aaron Pollard, Jake Gundler, Matt Forsee and Brian Paskins) placed 3rd; the 4x200 Relay (Colt Reese, CJ Grogan, Jake Gundler and Isiah Young) placed 4th; the 4x400 Relay (Brian Paskins, CJ Grogan, Colt Reese and Alex Ariapad) placed 3rd; the 4x800 Relay (Bobby Bingham, Luke Gilday, Grant Gilman and Alex Ariapad) placed 3rd; Pierce Burnam and Matt Forsee 2nd and 6th in the High Jump; Aaron Pollard 2nd in the Pole Vault; Branston Evans placed 6th in the Shot Put and Branston Evans and Justin Patrick placed 5th and 6th in the Discus.

Congratulations to the girls track team for winning the league meet last night. The meet came down to the very last race but a total team effort secured the victory. New Richmond Boys Tennis Team Finishes a Successful Season With a 5-0 Win Over Batavia

The NR boys tennis team defeated Batavia 5-0 on Wednesday and ended the regular season with an overall record of 12 - 6, a conference record of 9-1, and were SBAAC champions for the second year in a row!. Winners for the lions included;


1st Singles: Clint Lytle: 6-3, 6-0

2nd Singles: David Ohntrup: 6-1, 6-0

3rd Singles: Henry Heidlage: 5-7, 7-6(2), 7-6(3)

1st Doubles: Matt Rydzewski/Zach Manning: 6-1, 6-2

2nd Doubles: Ben Green/Evan McKinley: 6-1, 6-2

The lions team plays in the Division II tennis sectional on Thursday, which is at Mason High School.  Match play begins at 8:00 a.m.  Good luck guys!

VARSITY BASEBALL WINS FIRST ROUND IN SECTIONAL, REACHES 20 WIN MARK

The Lions Varsity Baseball Team opened up post-season play with an 11-0 win over Hughes on Tuesday, 5/8. Solid pitching from Ryan Waters, AJ Solis, and Levi Simpson resulted in a combined no-hitter and a shutout. The offense was led by Cole Bird with two hits, including a triple, and Austin Skaggs with 2 RBI's. The # 1 seeded and 20-4 Lions will host # 3 seeded Bethel on Thursday, 5/10 at 5:00 in the 2nd round in hopes of reaching the sectional finals for the 2nd straight year. The win against Hughes put the 2012 edition of Lions Baseball in an elite class of Lions Baseball History. Since 1965, only eight NR Lions teams had won 20 or more games in a season. They were the 1985(21 wins) and 1991(20 wins) teams guided by Jim Robinson, and the teams from 1999(20 wins), 2001(20 wins), 2002(21 wins), 2003(23 wins), 2004(23 wins), and 2005(23 wins).

New Richmond Boys Tennis Team Defeats Taylor 4 - 1

The New Richmond boys tennis team defeated Taylor 4 - 1 on Tuesday to improve their overall record to 11 - 6 on the season. Winners for the lions included;



2nd Singles: Evan McKinley 6-4, 7-5

3rd Singles:  Newton McCullom 6-1, 6-2

1st Doubles: Zach Manning/Matt Rydezewski  6-0, 6-4

2nd Doubles: Clint Lytle/Henry Heidlage 6-2, 6-2

The lions play their final match of the season against Batavia at home on Wednesday, then compete in sectionals on Thursday.

VARSITY BASEBALL GETTING TOURNAMENT READY

The Lions Varsity Baseball team begins sectional tournament play this week. The 19-4 and # 1 seeded Lions host Hughes on Tuesday, 5/8. With a win, the Lions will then host Bethel on Thursday, 5/10. Both games will begin at 5:00. There will be a $5 admission charge for each sectional game. Please come support Lions Baseball!!

Shinkle, four wrestlers honored by Enquirer

New Richmond High School wrestling coach Deron Shinkle was named 2012 Div. II coach of the year by the Cincinnati Enquirer and wrestlers Brody Hooks (113 pounds), Austin Skaggs (120 pounds), Cody Gabelman (126 pounds) and JR Forsee (285 pounds) were named first team all-stars. The Lions won Southern Buckeye Conference and Div. II Sectional championships and qualified four wrestlers to the state tournament.

A.J. Rostetter (106 pounds), Robbie Lemar (138 pounds), Ryan Zawacki (145 pounds), Clay Loadman (152 pounds), Cory English (160 pounds), Kevin Reid (170 pounds) and James White (182 pounds)received honorable mention on the 2012 Enquirer Div. II all-star team.

JV BASEBALL WRAPS UP 2012 SEASON

The JV Baseball team concluded their outstanding season last week with a 17 to 7 win over Fayetteville. The win finalized this young team's record at 22 wins and only 2 losses. Their league record was 9 and 1, which places them at the top of the SBC. The following JV players are to be congratulated for a tremendous 2012 season: Freshmen: Dalton Henderson, Jacob Carnahan, Daman Abner, Alex Sharp, Eric Scholz, Steven Wolfe, Austin Fischer, Jake Craig, and Jimmy Snider Sophomores: Dylan Adams, Blake Thompson, Will Lytle, Josh Heiden, Hunter Blankenship, Quinn Jetter, and Jake Hauke. Great job to these players and to coaches Mike Laub and Pat Gibson for a very special JV season.
