The Lions battle like champions but come up a little short.

What an electric atmosphere at NRHS Friday afternoon! The Lions did battle with the Glen Este Trojans during an in-school dual. The Lions coming off a tournament win at Roger Bacon and the Trojans coming off a tournament win at Harrison. The expectations were high on both sides of the mat.

Brody Hooks started off the match with a pin, making a statement for the Lions. Nathan Rostetter followed with a hard fought loss. Austin Skaggs got the Lions back in the win column with a first period pin. Cody Gabelman followed Austin's lead and pinned his GE opponent. Tyler Loyd attempted to keep the streak alive but came up short. Ryan Zawacki lost in overtime in an exciting match. Kyle Weeks made his varsity debut and came up four points short. Corey English was beat in the last six seconds of the match. Kevin Reid took the action to the Trojan wrestler and came away with a pin! Luke Hoskins may have had the match of the day. Luke was down 19-13 with abut a minute left when he threw his opponent to his back and got the pin with only seconds remaining! Ryle Beckerich went the distance but lost by decision. Nathan Dixon gave his best but came up short in the end. JR Forsee received a forfeit. The team score was 36-34 Lions going into the last match. AJ Rostetter had the weight of the world on his shoulders. AJ was working hard and giving his all but fell to the GE opponent. Final score Lions 36 Trojans 40.

Some of you may not have seen the JV action afterwards. Robbie Lemar and Autumn Clark pinned their opponents in the first period. Great job guys!

Next up for the Varsity Lions is the Coaches Classic 12/17 & 12/18 @ Harrison High School. This is the premier tournament in Cincinnati, only the best will survive! The JV travels to Bethel 12/17 for the Bethel Invitational. WE ARE NR!

Lady Lions Roar Back vs Amelia

The Varsity Lady Lions Basketball Team pulled off a stunning come-from-behind victory last night @ Amelia 37-36. After trailing by double-figures in the 4th quarter the girls refused to give up and clawed back using the half-court trapping defense to win the critical 4th quarter 16-4 to cap off the 1 point win. The comeback was fueled defensively by by seniors Courtney Grogan, Sarah Shoemaker, and Mikaela Rupp and Freshman Tina Lawrence who applied the pressure causing multiple turnovers and tie-ups. Josie Buckingham scored a game-high 14 points including 8 in the final period to spark the Lions offensively. Sarah Shoemaker chipped in 11 points while Courtney Grogan added two clutch jumpers in the 2nd Half. It was an exciting come-back and a great division win for the Lady Lions who play next at home Monday vs Norwood.

NEW RICHMOND BOYS SWIM TEAM WINS 9 OUT OF 11 EVENTS

The boys swim team defeated Clark Montesorri by a score of 66-28. 1st place finishers were: Colt Reese, Grant Gilman, Alex Ariapad, & Tyler David in the 200yd. Medley Relay; Tyler David in the 200yd. Free; Alex Ariapad in the 200yd. Individual Medley; Colt Reese in the 50yd Free; Alex Ariapad in the 100yd. Butterfly; Tyler David in the 500yd. Free; Alex Ariapad, Tyler David, Derek Gelter, Colt Reese in the 200yd. Free Relay; Colt Reese in the 100yd. Backstroke; and Grant Gilman in the 100yd. Breaststroke. 2nd place finishers were: Cody Biehle in the 200yd Individual Medley; Derek Gelter in the 50yd. Free; Derek Gelter in the 100yd Free; Cody Biehle, Theo Ostermann, Vincent Speaks, & Zachary Rolfes in the 200yd. Free Relay; Austin Berger in the 100yd. Backstroke; Henry Bezold in the 100yd. Breaststroke; and Austin Berger, Cody Biehle, Theo Ostermann, & Grant Gilman in the 400yd. Free Relay.

The boys swim team defeated CCD and Greenfield McClain by a score of 112-110-71. 1st place finishers were Tyler David for the 200yd. Freestyle & 500yd. Freestyle, Alex Ariapad-200yd Individual Medley & 100yd. Butterfly and 200 yd Free Relay Tyler David, Derek Gelter, Colt Reese, and Alex Ariapad. 2nd place finishers were:200yd. 3rd Straight Win for Girls Basketball

The Lady Lions Varsity Girls Basketball Team won its 3rd straight game last night defeating visiting Felicity-Franklin last night 40-15 to start the season 3-0. Senior Camie Keets became the 3rd different Lady Lion in 3 games to lead the team in scoring with 11 points. Josie Buckingham controlled the paint collecting 14 rebounds to go with her 8 points and 5 blocked shots. The girls' unrelenting defense created many easy baskets for the cause while contributing to fast transition offense. The Lady Lions are next @ Amelia Thursday, Dec. 8 in a another tough road division game.

JV Wrestling team has success at Wilmington Tournament.

Coach Minor took the JV team to Wilmington Saturday. The Lions were led by Robbie Lemar and James White who placed first. Tristan Williams and Jay Troy placed third. The Lions had ten wrestlers in the final round but the tournament only placed the top three. overall coach Minor thought it was a great start to a long season. Next up for the Lions is the school dual Friday, both JV and Varsity will wrestle Glen Este. WE ARE NR!

Varsity Wrestling team wins the Roger Bacon Duals

The Lions started yesterday morning with a 79-0 victory over host Roger Bacon, yes that is 14 matches and 14 wins! Next up for the Lions was Talawanda and the result was similar to the first round, Lions 74-3 victory. That placed the Lions in the medal round against Reading and Oak Hills. Reading, currently ranked #3 in the city, turned out to be a tough match. The Lions went into the final match down by one team point but JR Forsee stood between Reading and victory. JR would not be denied, he pinned the Reading opponent in the second period, Lions win, Lions win! Oak Hills was the next opponent for the Lions. The match was very competitive but in the end the Lions proved to be too much, Lions 63-10. The next round featured an SBAAC opponent, Batavia. The Lions finished the day strong with a 63-19 victory over the Bulldogs and securing the team title!

Leading the way for the Lions was Brody Hooks, Austin Skaggs, Tyler Loyd, Ryan Zawacki and Jr Forsee, all going 5-0 on the day! Cody Gabelman, Clay Loadman, Cory English and Kevin Reid all went 4-1 Saturday. Nathan Dixon went 3-1, Luke Hoskins went 2-0 until his injury prevented him from competing the last three matches. Ryle Beckerich went 1-0, Justin Patrick went 3-2, AJ Rostetter went 3-2 and Nathan Rostetter contributed with two victories.

The Lions are currently ranked #2 in the city poll and #7 in the state poll. The potential is high for the team this year but only hard work and determination will determine the outcome! WE ARE NR!
